Newell's Old Boys playmaker Mauro Formica is on the verge of completing a move to French side Monaco, but financial and passport issues are reportedly delaying the confirmation of the 22-year-old's European switch.
Ole reports that the attacking midfielder arrived in France two days ago to complete the transfer, believed to be worth around €2.5 million.
The two clubs however have failed to finalise the deal, with Newell's still hoping to extract more money from Monaco following the collapse of a move worth almost double with Turkish giants Galatasaray.
There are also certain issues surrounding Formica's eligibility to complete the move across the Atlantic. Formica possesses an Italian passport but it is currently expired, and the promising youngster will have to renew the document to qualify as an EU player.
The confusion is the latest chapter in a frustrating summer saga for the player, who has seen moves to Galatasaray and Blackburn Rovers fall apart at the last minute in this transfer window.
